The Department of Literacy and Drama is charged with the responsibility of teaching English and aims to develop the whole body of Literacy skills. The teaching and learning of English, referred to here as ‘Literacy’, also incorporates the acquisition of speaking and listening skills.
English is the basic language of communication in the BNC Curriculum. We aim at enabling children to express themselves imaginatively. We view our key role as inspiring the learners and providing a suitable environment for developing their creativity. As an institution, we recognize that the teaching and learning of English is essential because:
The department focuses its activities on exploring skills in the afore-mentioned broad strands of reading, writing as well as listening and speaking.
We recognise Drama as a tool in the teaching and learning of English and regard it as a major pillar in the development of Literacy skills. Teachers employ Drama in their day-to-day instruction and the department takes this further by organising productions that bring together the whole school. These productions also go a long way in helping the learners to identify and develop their talents.
The mission of the Department is to provide a relaxed environment in which children are able to explore freely and achieve excellence in the development of their Literacy skills.
