The Science Department here at Rusinga Schools offers the subjects Biology, Chemistry and Physics at Key Stages 3, 4 and A Level. At Key Stage 3, these subjects are each allocated 1 hour per week and are taught separately. However, at the end of Key Stage 3 we do offer the Science Checkpoint exam where the three subjects are examined as one Science exam and the learners sit for two papers.
At Key Stage 4, we offer IGCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The learners must do at least one of these subjects at this level. These are each allocated 3 hours per week and the syllabus is covered in 5 terms, at the end of which the learners are prepared to sit for the IGCSE exams.
At A Levels we offer Biology Chemistry and Physics at both AS and A2. At both these levels the course is taught in two terms after which the candidates sit the GCE examinations. We have four Laboratories for use by Key Stage 3 and IGCSE, and two for use by the A Level. These are well equipped and run by qualified laboratory technicians. All our internal and international practical examinations are done in these laboratories.
