Pastoral Care

"To fear God is Wisdom"

Rusinga Schools are a community of learners, parents, teachers and support staff all working together to promote teaching and learning that encourages all members to grow in Godly wisdom.

All our pastoral procedures are based upon the following truths:

  • That God created the world and loves each person. He expects all people to respect and care for each other as we grow in our understanding of His truth.
  • That we are called to serve God with all our beings and love each other as much as we love ourselves (Matthew 22: 37 - 39).
  • That we emphasise the role of parents as those given the responsibility for the education of their children and seek to support them in this role (Deuteronomy 6: 6 - 9, Proverbs 22: 6, Ephesians 6:4, 2 Timothy 3:15).
  • That we seek to get to know our students and their circumstances so that we can understand, support, encourage and correct them as effectively as possible.
  • That we accept the God-given norms and expectations that guide moral and social behaviour, His Son Jesus Christ and His Word the Bible.
  • That we recognise that members of the community do not always respond positively to God's expectations. Our tendency towards wrong-doing and rebellion breaks relationships and brings disorder and distress. Discipline is, therefore, required to develop right attitudes and behaviour, and to challenge wrong ways and to restore broken relationships.
  • That we actively encourage young people to take responsibility and seek to guide them in developing a positive character. Together with self-discipline, this encourages young people towards maturity where they respond with integrity toward personal and community issues.

These broad pastoral foundations are applied throughout the school in ways relevant to young people of different ages. They are important in our procedures for:

  • Home-School liaison.
  • Uniform guidelines.
  • Learner behaviour guidelines.
  • Learner posts of responsibility.
  • Learner guidance and counselling programmes.
  • Staff training and development.
  • Assemblies and school events.
  • Devotions, Prayer Week and Mentorship Programme.
  • The Curriculum and co-curricula programmes of the school are integrated with this pastoral framework to provide a broad Christian values approach to education and life in general.
